As far as the irrigation sector is concerned, it is highly unlikely Nizam
Telangana will realize any additional benefit from the Krishna and Godavari River
waters. The likelihood of a central government appointed tribunal overturning
the “protection of existing uses” clause is slim to none. The Kosta districts are
pretty much guaranteed to retain the river waters currently allocated to them.
Today, Nizam Telangana gets a larger share of irrigation development funds from
the government for the underdeveloped districts. That benefit will not exist in a
divided state, and the Telangana region will have fewer funds at its disposal for
the irrigation projects.
Kosta-Seema will also have to pay a steep price for the division, as
they will need to make enormous investments for their new capital city. This
unproductive investment will burden Kosta-Seema taxpayers and will be a drag
on their economy. In addition, contentions will inevitably arise between Kosta
and Rayalaseema over issues such as river water allocation and the location of the
capital city and high court.
No good will come from the separation of our state and its people.
Voters of our state, in the elections of 2009, have offered our leaders an excellent
opportunity to bury this evil of separatism. By giving a decisive vote against
separatists, people have stated in unambiguous terms that separating our state
and people is unacceptable to them. All the political parties operating in our state
must realize that Telugu unity is sacrosanct, and it cannot be bartered for votes.
Political leaders who believe in Telugu unity, irrespective of their party affiliation,
must fight against political alliances with separatist outfits.
There are myriad reasons for Telugus to stay united and hardly any good
justification for separating the state. No matter how the issue of separation is
sliced and diced, dividing the state hurts all Telugu people across all the regions.
The time is right, and the cause is just. Let us bury the separate Telangana genie
for eternity.
The demand for a separate Nizam Telangana state is historically
illegitimate, morally reprehensible, culturally ruinous, economically disastrous,
and strategically suicidal. This is nothing but a Bhasmasura wishTh
